HOW TO CREATE DEEP
LONGING

2019
Found drafting paper, screenprint, limestone found on the banks of the Mississippi river, beeswax, concrete blocks
Variable size

HOW TO CREATE DEEP LONGING diagrams the intersection and cycles of loss, unethical development, and desire, as well as the tools involved in creating these relationships. The tool pictured, a drill crawler rig, is used to dig out deep holes for building foundations. In 2019, I saw this tool at every single new construction site in Minneapolis, a rapidly gentrifying city/settler colony that now has a growing population of houseless people. I began to signify the drill with displacement, as signage for luxury housing would appear soon after I would see the tool.
